Macau International Airport cargo traffic up 50%

In August, cargo throughput at Macau International Airport surged with a growth rate of 51.6% over the same period last year. Passenger traffic continued its upward trend for the month, steadily increasing to nearly 90% compared to the pre-SARS level, reaching a total of 333,840 passengers. With the resumption of the services to Ningbo and Nanjing, all regular flight services are almost fully restored following the downtrend during the SARS months. The recent policy allowing individual travelers from China to Macau and Hong Kong is expected to have a highly positive impact on Macau International Airport's passenger traffic especially for the Beijing and Shanghai routes. Cargo throughput recorded an increase of 17.3% for the first eight months compared to the same period last year, reaching a total of 75,802 tonnes. In August, a total of 10,920 tonnes of cargo were handled at Macau International Airport. The surge in airfreight traffic was attributed to the increase in services of Shanghai Airline and EVA Air.
